Tulkiyan Revealed:
The Material Memoirs of a Home

Tulkiyan House and Garden
a Bj waterhouse-designed arts and crafts home
an immersive time capsule
Built in 1913, Tulkiyan house and garden was occupied throughout the twentieth century by two generations of the Donaldson family, before being donated to Ku-ring-gai Council in 1995 by Margaret Donaldson for the benefit of the local community.

Miss Donaldson's generous gift included the contents of Tulkiyan, comprising pieces of furniture and ephemera including books, letters, toys, clothing and receipts, allowing custodians to reconstruct the lives of the Donaldson family in detail.

From 2016 to 2022 the HHA undertook a major mould remediation project, addressing extensive internal damage caused by a burst water heater. This work by a dedicated group of volunteers under the leadership of curator Robert Griffin won a National Trust Heritage Award in 2022. Ku-ring-gai Council's ownership of Tulkiyan continues today, while the house and garden undergo the final stages of a careful restoration managed by the HHA.
